At least on MacOS, KSP 1.8.1 stills royally screws up the GUI when using Settings/Graphics/Texture Quality.

Can you tell if there's any check box ticked?

On KSP 1.12.3, the same.

There's no reason to believe that any intermediate KSP version has this fixed.
