This issue was opened, and kind of never went anywhere, but this is part of the core features of NetBox, managing Racks of equipement.
Object: Having Rack Types equivalent to Device Types.
2 post Racks/4post racks/Cabinets/vertical racks, wall-mount cabinets/racks, etc. These all have manufacturer, model numbers, part_number, weight, depth, number of U, and various measurements.
These are the basic building blocks. In our installations we have at least two dozen cabinet types , various racks and wall-mounted racks/cabinets.
Having a rack type (template) would certainly be beneficial.
The current workaround is creating all cabinets via a custom script(or plugin) that holds the information that should be in rack types.
I would like to see this issue revisited after 4.0 is released. Anyone else interested in this?
