Get package version from git tags?

Would you agree to use setuptools-scm to get the version from Git tags instead of hardwiring it in pyproject.toml?

Given that this tool is a rolling release (weekly deployment on /neurospin/local) I don't really see the usefulness of having a version number, and I kind of fear the added complexity

Right. Then I'd like to get rid of the version:

However, the field appears to be required:

This field is required, although it is often marked as dynamic using

[project]
dynamic = ["version"]

This allows use cases such as filling the version from a __version__ attribute or a Git tag. Consult the Single-sourcing the Project Version discussion for more details.
