PERF: exclude padding from AHE output #370
Description
A natural continuation from #368 is to avoid computing AHE within the padding itself. This would avoid wasted runtime and memory, but it'll require a bit of fiddling so I'm leaving it out until I have both AHE flavors fully implemented.
