Delete an attachment from Mail

Feature Request

Many users have limited space in their Mail Account because of the provider's quota. They should be given the opportunity to remove the attachment from the mail.

This feature could be implemented in three levels of convenience, where I consider the first one a must have.

1. Have a "delete Attachment from Mail" option in the attachments menu
2. To make it even more convenient, and to safe space in the users mail box by default, the user should be asked if the Attachment should be removed, during the process of saving it to Files App.
3. keeping an association between mail and attachment (or even mail and sender) after having deleted the mail – both from Mail App to Files App and vice versa – would round up the experience.

this doesn't work. the attachment is part of the IMAP message. We'd have to rewrite the full message and store it back to the mailbox. But then it also gets a new UID.

Long story short IMAP messages are immutable and we can't do this. At least not without going through a bunch of additional hoops.

Is there any other email client that offers that?

Thunderbird does it.
Rightclick the Attachment and choose "detach"

Interesting. I couldn't find the internals of that feature, so I'm still guessing that the rewrite the message, as in, read, discard attachment parts and write the message back.

Might this also be an option for the mail app?
