Improving recording quality

Hello,

I'm testing the recording backend, but the quality seems very poor by default.

I'm running Nextcloud Talk with the High Performance Backend.

The video quality with other participants looks good, but the recording has very low video and audio quality.

Is there a way to optimise this using parameters?

Hello,

the default quality settings should work fine for the default resolution as long as there is enough CPU. Recording is very CPU intensive, and the quality is dynamically adjusted (by ffmpeg) based on the available resources, so the quality could be lowered to be able to encode the call in real time. If this happen you will notice that the quality is low in the whole image (that is, not only in the video or screenshare, but also in the user avatar if there is no video nor screen share).

On the other hand, if the avatar looks fine in the recording but the problem appears only in videos or screenshares the problem could be that the connection between the recording server and the High Performance Backend is not right (either there is packet loss, or the recording server is connecting to the HPB through a TURN server with TCP).
