Can not input the app's emoji

When I click the emoji button of the application itself, the system input method will cover the emoji selection area of the application

Emojis also don't work on Samsung Galaxy Note 8 with googles gboard and also not with Samsung stock keyboard.
It basically prints an empty line with the time, when sending a smiley emoji for example. I would rather consider this a bug than label it "design". Users expect to be able to send smileys in a chat app. This is 2020.

@gr4ssi your particular issue could be a collation issue on the database though. Can you check it out?

@mario After having followed the instructions to upgrade the tables, I get ???? when posting an emoji. I'm using MariaDB 5.5.64. Changed the my.cnf, upgraded the tables etc. Also the error in the admin-panel is gone... Any hints?
