As a user, I would like an application layer workaround that is toggleable, "Account for area inversion bug" that is enabled by default. If this box is checked, then the actual area passed to Z2M should be -1*X instead of X, so that it will automatically invert the X values in a single application. Later, if this is resolved in Zigbee2MQTT, or Inovelli, then, the app can check for version > (fixed version) and determine if it should be enabled or disabled by default.
