figure out how to test the "node folder not required" feature in a nice way

This is testing cmake macro functionality, which we dont have a good way to do atm. The current tests run through jig_example, but that obviously can't test this. Maybe a setup like what jig_cli has, where we have a secret "testing" workspace that is hidden beneath the package...
