UTF-8 encoding

I'm working on MAC OS X Lion at this moment he is acting like a server.

When i want to export data to excel on windows local network machine i have problems with the utf-8 decoding.

Are both server lang's and ruby encodings set to utf-8 I've found similar problems with gems like compass where the system overrides the local settings?

Sorry, but o don't get it.

I have the rails runing on mac os shell just for development at now. And over the local network i have a windows 7. http://192.168.1.32:3000/

what's the cause or solution? many thanks.

Is the mac outputting the utf-8 wrong or is windows reading it wrong?

The ruby interpreter has it own encoding output.

params[:q].encoding # Rails 3 on 1.9 generally presents strings in UTF-8
params[:q].encode('utf-8') # ask Ruby to re-encode it to UTF-8

I don't have a windows machine so I can't replicate this issue to help you, so I need you to tell me where the actual problem is. If the output is in ANSI that would cause a utf-8 machine to choke on reading it.

When it output the file under the Mac OS the xls encoding file is good.

When it outputs the file over the windows the encoding is wrong. Some unknows chars appear over the right é, à...

If you need more information feel free.

I just deployed the app on a ubuntu (on local network) and the problem is the same

If i reach the excel over the Mac, no problems with the accents, however if i use a Windows the accents appear weird. Non Utf-8
