Can npm workspace work with nx integrated?

I have a project that is using nx integrated. I want to add 3rd party projects and store the node_modules in the project root (instead of the subfolder where the project resides). I heard I can use npm workspace to do this.

Is this possible? To have both nx integrated and npm workspace work together?
