I like how my HP Prime visually distinguishes between positive and negative area when visually solving an integral. I believe that it would be a good visual enhancement that would make understanding the idea of "negative area" easier.

Render plus signs in sections of an integral with positive area, and minus signs in sections of an integral with negative area. See screenshot below.
