Wired Network Icon Disappears when using a VPN

Describe the bug
The wired network icon disappears when connected to a VPN setup through the network manager.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Create a VPN connection in Network Manager
2. Connect to a wired network
3. Connect to the VPN connection
4. See error

Expected behavior
A lock symbol to appear over the wired network icon similar to when connected to a VPN on a wireless network
