Bulk edit the deadline of due tasks

I need to bulk change the date of multiple tasks. As of now, I can only do it task by task. Assuming I have 20-30 tasks due today, I would like to have a bulk edit feature to change the date for all of them.

Any help?

Hi @tecnoborder, there is currently no way to do bulk edits with the Tasks plugin.

There was discussion around this in #130, in case it gives any ideas.

I have myself often spent time bumping the dates of multiple tasks, using one of:

• manually, editing the due date of each task
• using an Obsidian plugin that allows me to select the same date multiple times in a file, and update the selected text
• using an editor that supports find-and-replace with regular expressions, to do bulk edits (making sure I have a backup of my data first).

This is just a personal thing, but invariably within a small number of days of doing those edits, I realise that I am drowning with an infeasible amount of stuff to do, and I either delete a bunch of tasks, or at least remove their due dates, rather than keeping on bumping them over, accumulating a larger and larger mountain of stuff, getting more and more demotivated.

(I do not have anyone to delegate tasks to!)

Thanks for the detailed reply. In the end I find myself using the replace feature when I get many tasks overdue

Thanks for the discussion. I ran across this thread looking for something similar. I use #today, #thisweek and #later tags and I realized it would be nice to be able to click a button and replace #today with being actually due today via date to make my daily note queries more valuable. I might circle back to this at some point and see what I can come up with.

It could be cool to also have a feature to move everything to tomorrow or another specified date

I'd dearly love to have that feature too, @tecnoborder.

If @alexthewilde's pull request to support extending Tasks via plugin gets merged, I might even attempt to write a couple ("make due tomorrow" and "make due next workweek day") myself -- despite the weakness of my Typescript knowledge and skill.

That's an interesting unexpected possible consequence of that PR what hadn't occured to me .... if enabling people to make their own private customisations might risk reducing contributions made to the core project...

@claremacrae you can always decide to "pull" good ideas into core. But the idea of a hook-based architecture is to keep a lean and solid core while enabling the community to build around it in any way they like.
