Calendar has wrong "today" date highlighted [in Reading mode and Tasks search results, when Obsidian was started in an earlier day]

• My request is about the Tasks plugin for Obsidian.
• I have tested the bug with the latest version of the Tasks plugin.

⚠️ Check that this issue hasn't been reported before.

• I searched previous Tasks plugin Bug Reports didn't find any similar reports.

Steps to reproduce

1. Launch obsidian
2. Create a task query that shows a task with a date
3. Wait until tomorrow
4. Click the date emoji

Expected Behavior

When the calendar appears, today should be circled.

Current behaviour

The date that obsidian was started is highlighted instead. This screenshot was taken today 26 Aug 2025.

I also want to add, that I haven't tested this extensively. I noticed the screenshot above today, played around with it, restarted Obsidian, and it works again. Closing and reopening the file did not work. I realise this will be really difficult to replicate as it requires such long intervals in testing. It also will be hard to test I guess.

I'd also say this is a low priority issue. If I click the "Today" button, the correct date does get assigned, so it's just a presentation thing, that the circle is drawn around the wrong date. I figure it's some view which doesn't get updated, and maybe somebody can figure out what's going on from the code easier than trying to build a solid reproduction.

Reproduction steps

It would be really helpful to have a quicker workaround - such as the text of a markdown note with a task line and a query, that can be copied-and-pasted.

Workaround

I've seen this occasionally myself, and like you, found that restarting Obsidian fixed it.

A quick worked around is running Obsidian's "Reload app without saving" command, as it saves a lot of state.

Clarification appreciated

   • What does "did not work" mean, precisely?
2. When you took the screenshot, had the Obsidian process been running since 23rd August?
3. Does it only occur in the date-picker in the Query results, and not the one on task lines in Reading mode? (they use different code, IIRC)

1. Closing and reopening the file with the query did not cause the calendar to highlight the correct date.
2. I'm not sure when the process started, my assumption is that it started a couple of days ago, which could be the 23rd, but I really couldn't say with any clarity.
3. I'm not sure, I've only noticed this once. I usually keep obsidian running for months, and I only just today realised that those emojis open a calendar view, so I don't have any other history with this issue I'm afraid.

Ahhh - I think you are saying that a re-start is needed, closing the file along does not fix it. Yes, that is to be expected.

I've just had this on my Mac.

Obsidian was running overnight - today is 12th September.

Note: The following screenshots are on different tasks, or different fields, hence the chosen date differs...

The date-picker in Reading mode
