🧪 CI/CD Testing Guide - querido-diario-data-processing

🎯 Overview

The CI/CD pipeline now includes comprehensive testing for both AMD64 and ARM64 architectures, ensuring robust builds and deployments across all supported platforms.

🏗️ Testing Jobs

1. Multi-Architecture Testing (test-multi-arch)

Purpose: Validate builds work on both AMD64 and ARM64 architectures

Matrix Strategy:

  • linux/amd64 - Native x86_64 testing
  • linux/arm64 - ARM64 architecture testing (emulated on GitHub runners)

What it tests:

  • Docker builds succeed on both architectures
  • Python dependencies import correctly (AMD64 only for speed)
  • Apache Tika server starts and responds (AMD64 only for speed)
  • Multi-arch compatibility without runtime issues

Key Features:

  • Separate caching per architecture for optimal performance
  • Conditional testing - complex tests only on AMD64 to avoid emulation issues
  • Build validation - ensures images can be created on both platforms

2. Python Unit Testing (test-python-unit)

Purpose: Run comprehensive Python test suite with all dependencies

Services:

  • PostgreSQL 11: Database for data storage tests
  • OpenSearch 2.9.0: Search engine integration tests
  • MinIO: S3-compatible object storage tests

What it tests:

  • Unit tests: All Python modules and functions
  • Integration tests: Database, search, and storage connectivity
  • Apache Tika integration: Text extraction functionality
  • Code coverage: Quality metrics and coverage reporting

Test Categories:

  • tests/main_tests.py - Core application logic
  • tests/text_extraction_tests.py - Apache Tika integration
  • tests/text_extraction_task_tests.py - Task execution
  • tests/postgresql.py - Database operations
  • tests/opensearch.py - Search engine operations
  • tests/digital_ocean_spaces.py - Object storage operations

4. Apache Tika Build (build-apache-tika)

  • Depends on: test-multi-arch + test-python-unit
  • Platforms: linux/amd64, linux/arm64
  • Caching: Separate cache scope for independence
