channel removal leads to endless loading symbol

to reproduce:

add https://livingobjects.ebi.ac.uk/idr/zarr/v0.4/idr0076A/10501752.zarr

turn off all channels

then it shows the spinning loading image, but to no effect.

same behaviour with a different file:
