Ubuntu packaging for opa and regal

What is the underlying problem you're trying to solve?

OPA offers a few ways for users to download and use the OPA binary and Regal linter on Linux. As someone who uses this regularly, I believe it will be useful to create and maintain official Ubuntu packages for both these tools.

Describe the ideal solution

This makes it a lot more easier for users of Ubuntu to install and use OPA and Regal. Installing from a verified OS provider, especially in CI/CD pipelines, will be useful.

Describe a "Good Enough" solution

Setting up and maintaining OPA and Regal ubuntu packages, and keeping them up to date with the official releases of these tools will be great.

Additional Context

This was discussed in the OPA #ecosystem slack channel. I'll be working on creating these packages and maintaining them. In the near future, we will setup automation such that these packages get updated every time there is an official release.

This sounds good to me, we can add it to the list of other community maintained packages: https://www.openpolicyagent.org/docs?current-os=linux#1-download-opa when it's ready.

Hopefully we can ensure that it's automated eventually so the version lag is minimal for users keen to use the packages.

Couple of questions.

1. The plan I have is to create a separate repo named 'opa-deb' and 'regal-deb' for the respective deb packages. Should I create it under my namespace in GitHub, or should those be created under the open-policy-agent namespace?

Good questions,

1. for now, I think use your personal namespace unless this poses issues for getting the package accepted. Once the automation is in place, and we have the docs etc updated, we can consider moving it into the OPA org If there are benefits at the time.
2. We send out notifications in a number of places, slack, GH discussions, social media etc. We can be sure to feature something like this in the next release or when it's available in a common ubuntu version etc.
