Trim the chat overview entry to its summary
Leaves the bullet saying what the overview panel is and where to open it, without the walkthrough of its nodes, its layout buttons and its viewport behaviour.

- **🗺️ Chat Overview**: A map of the whole conversation, on the **Overview** tab of the chat controls panel. Open the panel with the **Controls** button in the chat's top bar, or with the **Toggle Controls** [shortcut](./keyboard-shortcuts.mdx) once you have given it keys, and the tab is listed as soon as the chat has a message in it.

Every message gets a node, the ones on branches you are not currently following included, so an edited question or a regenerated answer stays in view as a fork instead of dropping out of sight. A node shows the picture and name of whoever wrote the message, the model's own picture and name on an answer, with the first two lines of the text under it. Rest the pointer on a node to read the message in full, and one that failed shows its error in red. An answer marked as a favourite keeps a filled heart on its node. The line running from the start of the conversation down to the message you are on is animated, so the branch the chat is following is visible at a glance.

54-
Clicking a node moves the conversation onto the branch that runs through it, carrying on to that branch's last message, and scrolls the chat to the message you clicked unless you have turned **Scroll On Branch Change** off in **Settings > Interface > Chat**.

The bar in the bottom left corner zooms in, zooms out and fits the whole map back into the panel. Three buttons follow it:

| **Vertical Layout** | Stacks the conversation from top to bottom. This is where it starts |
61-
| **Horizontal Layout** | Runs the conversation from left to right instead |
62-
| **Viewport Unpinned** / **Viewport Pinned** | Whether the map recentres itself. Left unpinned it recentres on the message you are on whenever the conversation moves, when you click a node and when the panel is resized. Pinned, it stays where you put it. The tooltip names the state it is in now |

Nodes cannot be dragged, so drag the background to move the map around.

- **[🔍 History & Search](./history-search.mdx)**: Navigate and search your previous conversations, or allow models to search them autonomously via native tools.

- **👁️ Sidebar Hover Previews**: Resting the pointer on a chat in the sidebar opens a small preview of its most recent messages, scrolled to the end, so you can identify a conversation without opening it. Only one preview is shown at a time, and moving to another row replaces it. Turn it off with **Chat Hover Previews** in **Settings > Interface > Chat** if you would rather have a quiet sidebar, are sharing your screen, or are on a connection slow enough that the previews lag. Previews need a pointer, so they do not appear on a touchscreen.
