Which method is the right one (Pipeline, Function..)

Hi,
im new to open-webui so i need your help :)

I needed a function to show weblinks to intern websites in the sidebar based on the usergroups.
I coded this into the core and its working as needed but with the high update frequency this is not an option.

I would like to know whats the state or the art way to build this as an plugin/extension which i can install without touching the core.

I have modifyed the following files for the function:

backend/open_webui/routers/auths.py
src/lib/stores/index.ts
src/lib/components/layout/Sidebar.svelte

Is this a usecase for a pipeline or can i handle this as a function or is editing the core the right way?
