Contributor count not displayed on home page

What

On the home page, the number of contributors is not displayed.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Open the home page.
2. Observe that the contributor count is missing.

Expected behavior

The number of contributors should be fetched correctly from the API and displayed to the user.

The problem is that now that api is behind auth, so if you're not logged in it just raises an error and you get that visualization.
