QField new project wizard and QGIS 4.x Desktop QFieldSync No .qgs file found in folder

What is the bug or the crash? What were your expectations and what actually happened?

There is not any "qgs" file in QField, all are "qgz". Does QField Sync not work with projects created by QField?

Steps to reproduce the issue

1. New project wizard in QField Beta 7274 Android 9, project name qfstabletest, digitize a point in the default layer.
2. Connect Android 9 device with USB for typical mass-storage-class to host having
3. New project in QGIS Desktop 4.x, as per recommended stable release from QGIS website instructions for Linux Debian 13 Trixie.
4. Save QGIS Desktop project as default to some local directory "stabletest", result is stabletest.qgz
5. Plugins : QFieldSync : Synchronize from QField
   5a. Select the QField Project Folder : /run/user/$(id -u)/gvfs/.../Android/data/ch.opengis.qfield_beta/files/Created Projects/
   5b. Directories to be copied (refresh), select qfstabletest
   5c. Synchronize

• I have a fresh install of the latest QFieldSync version on a new QGIS profile, but the problem persists.
• Problem can be reliably reproduced, doesn't happen randomly.
• Problem happens with all files and projects, not only some files or projects.

I didn't follow the bug report. Can you clearly state what were your expectations and what actually happened and why you think those two mismatch.

You are talking about a beta version of QField, is there a particular reason for that? Also I wouldn't say 4.0 recommended yet.

I wouldn't say is a very big surprise for me that cutting edge versions do not work well together (yet).

Load this app on the phone, use it to create project, import the project to desktop app. This does not work, simply. I have to use development version of app because of some actively developed feature (NTRIP client support). The result also happens though in the default save action of latest stable QGIS release, so it is not limited to QField app anyways.

Yes it is a beta version of QField, but the problem is QFieldSync does not see qgz files that is the default in QField beta and in QGIS Desktop stable release.

The installation guide for Linux Debian/Ubuntu https://qgis.org/resources/installation-guide/#debian--ubuntu recommends "Add the QGIS repo for the latest stable QGIS (4.0.x Norrköping) to..."

The installation guide for Windows https://qgis.org/resources/installation-guide/#windows recommends "Latest Release 4.0.1 Norrköping" and "Long Term Release 3.44.9 Solothurn LTR" and "Development 4.1 master". So the latest release (of the desktop app QGIS, the "4.0", is not said to be any development version.

Is that wrong advice?

Should I accept QFieldSync will not support qgz, and focus on QField new project wizard breaking QFieldSync by saving qgz that is not compatible with QFieldSync?
