Quartus standard/free version compatible CV32 core - available now

Hello,
Looking at this old issue #943 as I face the same with the latest Quartus Standard edition:

Info: Version 25.1std.0 Build 1129 10/21/2025 SC Lite Edition

I spent some time with the compiler and added workarounds and now have a clean run. Major issues are around:

• Lack of support for "generate/endgenerate being optional keyword"
• unique case..inside construct
• Requires named blocks in few places
• Requires genvar declaration separately
• import shall be outside module declaration

I can open a PR if the authors feel this is of interest. I personally believe it is of use - as many students/hobbyists may not have paid/Pro version of Altera Quartus.

Hi @svenka3, thanks for your interest in OpenHW and the CV32E40P.

In general, the OpenHW Foundation's projects target Industrial and Research Institute users, not hobbyists. At least two of the code constructs you mention, specifically generate blocks and unique case are considered "must haves" for such users. As such, we would hesitate to modify a very mature project to replace this code just to support Quartus Standard edition, particularily when the equivalent free-to-use version of Vivado handles this code.

Having said that, if you are willing to submit a PR, we will at least have a look at it. Before you do, please review CONTRIBUTING and ensure you are covered by the Eclipse Contributor Agreement.
