Hi @wtbarnes, and thanks for your submission! All the suitable JOSS editors are currently working at capacity so I'm going to "waitlist" this review until an editor with the relevant expertise is available to take it on. The backlog is currently very long so this will almost certainly take at least several months but we've also recently increased our editorial capacity. Thanks for your patience!

Note also that the paper is a bit long. Our docs say

The paper should be between 250-1000 words. Authors submitting papers significantly longer than 1000 words may be asked to reduce the length of their paper.

If you could get the paper under 1500 words, perhaps by shortening the summary, that'd be great. Generally the JOSS paper only needs enough domain-specific detail to motivate why the software exists, and technical details can be in references or the docs. Whenever you want to recreate the PDF, comment in this thread with @editorialbot generate pdf. You can similarly check the word count with @editorialbot check repository.

That said, this isn't a barrier to being reviewed and your place in the queue is largely set by your submission date.

Thanks for the update @warrickball! Understood re: available editors. I appreciate that these things take time with an entirely volunteer-run operation.

In the meantime, I'll work on reducing the length of the submission. It should be relatively straightforward to do.
