Steno output on iPad using Mac as input

Problem

• Steno output:
  • works on Mac (eg. if I press 'd' key it outputs a word)
  • doesn't work on iPad connected to Mac (eg. if I press 'd' key it just outputs the character 'd')

Use case

• I'm using Universal Control to connect Mac keyboard and trackpad and/or mouse to iPad
• I don't mind using other methods of connecting Mac to iPad as long as I can:
  1. get the steno to output on iPad too
  2. Continue using trackpad and/or mouse with iPad

Extra thoughts on issue

• Because something like embedded steno can work on any device, as when Plover outputs an entire word, it is split into its different characters which are outputted to the target device with a (minimal) delay as if they had been typed, I'm sure this should be possible with my setup
