Exploring STEM Workforce Trends in England and Wales (2011–2021)

This project was developed as part of my MSc in Data Science at the University of Bristol. Using UK census data, I created an interactive Tableau dashboard to explore:

  • 📈 Growth of STEM workforce
  • 👩‍🔬 Gender & ethnic diversity trends
  • 🗺️ Geographical distribution patterns
  • 🔍 Multivariate demographic analysis (UMAP)

🔍 Key Insights

  • STEM workforce share increased by 1.02%
  • Female representation up by nearly 5%
  • Ethnic diversity remained low (88% White)
  • Regional STEM employment varies significantly

📊 Visual Tools Used

  • Tableau (interactive dashboard with filters & maps)
  • UMAP dimensionality reduction (2D scatter plot)
  • Stacked bar charts, choropleth map, interactive filters

📁 Files Included

  • Exploring STEM Workforce Trends in England and Wales.pdf – Full project report
  • dimensionality_reduction_and_bayesian_time_series_forecast.py - Python scrypt for dimensionality reduction and bayesian forecast implementations
  • dashboard-screenshots/ – Visual assets
