Installing docker on Atlas OS

Hey so i recently installed Atlas OS and ive been trying to setup docker. However i have some issues with the docker installation. I had turned on the Hyper-V, Windows Subsystem Linux and Virtual Machine Platform (I already activate Windows 11 Pro).

The docker giving me these error : running wslexec: An error occurred while running the command. Wsl/Service/RegisterDistro/CreateVm/HCS/ERROR_PATH_NOT_FOUND: c:\windows\system32\wsl.exe --import-in-place docker-desktop <home>\appdata\local\docker\wsl\main\ext4.vhdx: exit status 0xffffffff (stderr: , wslErrorCode: Wsl/Service/RegisterDistro/CreateVm/HCS/ERROR_PATH_NOT_FOUND)

I also tried to do wsl --install and the result is :

The system cannot find the path specified.
Error code: Wsl/InstallDistro/Service/RegisterDistro/CreateVm/HCS/ERROR_PATH_NOT_FOUND

is anyone has an idea to solve this? i tried to restore services to windows default but it still doesn't work.

Yeah, it was the same thing. I eventually fixed this by doing infinite loops of uninstall/reinstall WSL, disabling and re-enabling the required Windows features, and running DISM & SFC to hell and back, as well as tons of reboots, until it finally just worked again.

I have no idea how and what borked itself here, and if it actually is an Atlas OS issue - or another MicroSlop problem. :/

@illjimae17 I encountered the same issue. Perhaps the only solution is to change the system to Atlas-OS before installing it? But it's really too much trouble.

I have the same problem for months now and couldn't get it to work. Really hope that the devs take a look at it and at least mentions in their docs if it's possible to use Docker on Atlas OS and if yes, how.

Could you check if my "solution" also works for you?

1. Uninstall WSL & all related optional Windows Features
2. Reboot
3. Run DISM and SFC and then reboot
4. Repeat 3. until no more issues are found
5. Reinstall WSL & all related optional Windows Features
6. Reboot
7. Try running WSL

For step 3 you can use the Repair Windows Components.cmd script from the 8. Troubleshooting folder in the Atlas directory on your desktop.

Unfortunately, no dice. At least with my tower PC (where I want/need to run Docker).

I first tried it out on my Laptop where I’ve never even installed WSL. Did the Repair Windows Components.cmd script, followed it up with SFC and DISM, errors were never found. Installed Docker and through it WSL. Runs no problem.

Later tried it then on the tower PC. Uninstalled WSL, dug really deep in the directories to remove all of the WSL stuff. Run the script again, SFC and DISM too. No errors were ever found. Installed WSL again, still get the error message.

The only differences between my laptop and tower PC are that 1) the laptop never had WSL installed before and 2) the laptop is running Win11 Home while the tower PC is running Win11 Pro (both are obviously running AtlasOS).

@RCRDMK I think I also ran the Fix Windows Errors <some number> and <some other number> script that essentially resets the permissions in the TMP directory IIRC. Maybe try throwing that into the mix :) Maybe I was just lucky that it started working for me again ...

Can’t even do that because immediately when it wants to take ownership over the TEMP folder I get an error about an invalid syntax and how the value ’y’ can’t be used for the option ‘/d’.

I think I’m gonna call it quits here and wait for the devs to hopefully and finally fix this nuisance.
