exiftool: Can't locate Image/ExifTool.pm in @INC

Hi,

I have installed exiftool in Homebrew on several Macs (Intel, Apple Silicon) running on Monterey and Big Sur and on all I receive the same error message when running exiftool.

Example on Apple Silicon Mac running Monterey:

$ which exiftool
/opt/homebrew/bin/exiftool
$ exiftool -Model dsc_0000.nef
Can't locate Image/ExifTool.pm in @INC (you may need to install the Image::ExifTool module) (@INC contains: /opt/homebrew/bin/../Cellar/exiftool/12.42/bin/lib /Library/Perl/5.30/darwin-thread-multi-2level /Library/Perl/5.30 /Network/Library/Perl/5.30/darwin-thread-multi-2level /Network/Library/Perl/5.30 /Library/Perl/Updates/5.30.3 /System/Library/Perl/5.30/darwin-thread-multi-2level /System/Library/Perl/5.30 /System/Library/Perl/Extras/5.30/darwin-thread-multi-2level /System/Library/Perl/Extras/5.30) at /opt/homebrew/bin/exiftool line 40.

When running exiftool directly from installation path /opt/homebrew/Cellar/exiftool/12.42/bin/exiftool it works without problems:

$ ls -al /opt/homebrew/bin/exiftool
lrwxr-xr-x  1 badmin  admin  37 Jun  9 11:08 /opt/homebrew/bin/exiftool -> ../Cellar/exiftool/12.42/bin/exiftool
$ /opt/homebrew/Cellar/exiftool/12.42/bin/exiftool -Model dsc_0000.nef
Camera Model Name               : NIKON D80
$

So it looks like the Perl script is unable to find the right lib path when started from a link location.

Any ideas how to solve this problem? My current workaround is to have set an alias to /opt/homebrew/Cellar/exiftool/12.42/bin/exiftool but this would have to be adapted each time a new exiftool version is shipped (and until that problem is solved).

Fixed several days ago in Homebrew/homebrew-core#103182, but due to an oversight, there was no revision bump at the time, so a brew upgrade wouldn't have picked up the fix.

It's being properly bumped in Homebrew/homebrew-core#103788, but in the meantime, you can brew reinstall exiftool to pick up the fix.
