Updating initial storage resumed from file (NetCDF)

Yes, update the value in the stride (1:NA) where the value is the Rank of the lake outlet (if unknown, it's printed in the reservoirs summary seen during initialization).

The above is true for subbasin/vector-based setups. For a gridded setup, the nc file is organized by lat and lon, and does not know the Rank.

I found this simple way to do it:

ncap2 -F -O -s 'grid_stgch(114,136)=1.35e10' MESH_initial_values.2005_001.nc MESH_initial_values.nc

(114,136) are the lat and lon indices of the lake outlet, which can be taken from the IY and IX columns in the reservoirs summary seen during initialization, but also printed to MESH_output_print_echo.txt.

Warning

-F is required to ensure NCO uses FORTRAN indexing (starting from 1) or it will seek the wrong pixel!

@mee067: Do I need to do anything for other points inside the lake? qo is zero for those points but they still have values for storage.

I don’t think so. When it’s routed, qi is accumulated across those cells to the outlet, but I don’t think anything else happens with them.
