Some of you may have already noticed on GitHub or on the old RaspberryMatic homepage: “RaspberryMatic” is now called “OpenCCU.” Although a first stable firmware release under the new name is still pending, which can be installed on existing CCU central solutions as usual, it is now time to rename this discussion forum as well.
Therefore: “Welcome to the old/new OpenCCU discussions.” :)
After ten years, “RaspberryMatic” not only has a new name and a new structure, but also finally a common development platform. As eQ3 and I have indicated on different channels, in the future there will only be one common “OpenCCU” CCU solution, which will be however available in two versions: basically a Short Term Support (STS) and Long Term Support (LTS) version. The STS version is basically the same as the old RaspberryMatic and will continue to offer regular updates about once a month in the usual way and will simply be called “OpenCCU.” For users who prefer less frequent updates or need a longer stabilization phase, there will be a “OpenCCU-LTS” version, which is released at longer intervals and contains more conservative operating system updates. These LTS releases will only appear 2-3 times a year and will be virtually identical to an “old” OpenCCU version, but will also contain selected bug fixes or minor updates to the CCU environment.
So celebrate the 10th anniversary with me and us, and look forward to the coming months full of exciting developments. In addition to consolidating to a central solution and renaming, the source code of central CCU operating components will be gradually disclosed, which will be beneficial for CCU users with an affinity for development. Those who wanted to customize the CCU will be pleased that more parts are now becoming open source, which will strengthen the CCU as the most flexible and future-proof Homematic central solution and hopefully also encourage one or two smart home developers to collaborate on “OpenCCU.”
So: “Party with me/us, but stay tuned...”
