react-native-netinfo peer dependency in react-native-compat

currently react-native-netinfo is a peer dependency which does not support react native new arch ( support is soon coming as it seems react-native-netinfo/react-native-netinfo#655 ) but as of now apps consuming this package won't support new arch fully, which leads to my question:

is this package even used in react-native-compat ? I couldn't find any reference of its use and if so could it be replace by expo-nework which offers the same APIs ( I've seen expo-application as a peer dependency as well so I'd assume expo is expected ) ?
