We are currently integrating Instagram Messaging with Chatwoot OSS using the official Meta APIs and we are facing an issue during Meta App Review.
Current setup
Chatwoot Open Source (self-hosted)
Facebook + Instagram connected through Meta Business
Messenger channel working correctly
Instagram account properly linked to Facebook Page
Meta App permissions requested:
instagram_basic
instagram_manage_messages
pages_read_engagement
Current behavior
Instagram messages are actually arriving inside Chatwoot, but:
They only appear inside the Messenger inbox/channel
The Instagram inbox/channel itself appears inactive
The sender information is not properly identified
Instead of displaying the Instagram username/profile, conversations appear with generic or incomplete sender information (example attached below).
This is creating problems during Meta App Review because reviewers expect:
Instagram conversations to be properly handled
Sender/user information to be correctly displayed
Questions
Is it expected that Instagram messages only appear inside the Messenger inbox in recent Chatwoot versions?
Is the dedicated Instagram inbox/channel still supported?
Is additional configuration required to correctly resolve the Instagram sender identity?
Are there additional permissions/webhooks required beyond:
instagram_basic
instagram_manage_messages
pages_read_engagement
Has anyone recently passed Meta App Review with this exact setup?
Additional context
We understand Meta now routes Instagram Messaging through Messenger API for Instagram, so we are unsure whether:
this behavior is expected,
the Instagram channel is deprecated,
or we are missing some configuration step.
Any clarification or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
