Wallpaper frozen, cannot change from system nor terminal nor variety

One of the first apps I always install after finishing installing ElementaryOS is variety

Lately, I begun noticing having the same wallapaper, although I've set it to rotate each 10 minutes (from a folder with 100x wallpapers). Then tried changing variety settings, etc. but nothing worked. Also restarted PC etc.. The app is running of course (set to run at boot etc)

Then tried the following (without luck)

1. Change wallpaper from Settings -> Desktop. None of the 4 desktops make effect. It only sets that background for the login/lock screen
2. Change through terminal: gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri file:///media/datos/Descargas/testwall1.png
3. Copying wallpaper to $XDG_GREETER_DATA_DIR and set through gsettings gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri file:/$XDG_GREETER_DATA_DIR/testwall1.png

Don't know which other app or setting I could try, but I'd like to debug which is the app, library, setting or whatever that does not allow me/variety to set the wallpaper

Have you installed through APT anything that may interfere - Notably to have desktop icons ?
Or some Gnome or Cinnamon components like Nemo ?

EDIT: I just saw for variety, jumped the gun a bit. What happens when you stop Variety ?

I've (I think) not installed lately anything that may interfere with desktop.
I've installed themes and icon sets, but long time ago and variety was working fine with those

If I kill variety, nothing happens. I cannot change wallpaper from anywhere nor any way

Today I tried to change with these commands

dconf write /org/gnome/desktop/background/picture-uri "'file:///home/myuser/walls/aurora1.jpg'"
dconf write /org/gnome/desktop/background/picture-uri-dark "'file:///home/myuser/walls/aurora1.jpg'"

and it worked with the 2nd one. Still have to find out why cannot change through settings nor variety
