Describe the component you'd like

The p4 has a csi interface and i have a OV5647 i would like to use

What are your use cases for this component?

I want to build a doorbell camera and the p4 has csi (for camera with night vision), speaker, microphone and poe Ethernet. And because of the csi interface I can use raspberry pi camera with night vision

Is there a public datasheet, documentation and/or schematics?

There is so many places in esp-idf documentation for different examples using the camera interface

Hi everyone,

I’ve implemented initial support for MIPI-CSI cameras on the ESP32-P4 as part of a new modular camera framework:

It includes support for CSI-connected sensors such as the OV5647 and others using the ESP-IDF MIPI interface.

If you have access to CSI hardware (like the P4 + OV5647 setup), you’re very welcome to try it out and share feedback.
The more people who test and confirm it works for their use case, the easier it will be to get full support merged into ESPHome.

@DT-art1 Why did you close your PR? I just finally found some time to test it but now it's closed...

I started PR#7639 in October 2024 and over time it grew into a much larger task than I originally expected.

I don't want to add extra burden on the ESPHome maintainers, especially with so many other PRs already waiting for attention. At the same time, keeping this work open also becomes a burden for me, since I can't commit to maintaining it properly right now.

Camera support in ESPHome is already a niche feature, and combining that with MIPI-CSI specifically for the P4 makes the timing even less ideal at the moment.

So, I decided to close the PR rather that leave it half-maintained. Maybe in 1-2 years there will be more interest in MIPI-CSI and the P4 platform, and then the work can continue from there.
