Yeah this starts to be annoying lately as GitHub is having more and more often availability issues. I run on timeouts almost every day.
Would be nice to have some kind of on-demand cahing to a local "mirror" from where the default repos could be restored even after a "Clean ALL".

to me it seems like it's caching stuff, as the first download always takes longest. But yes having the ability to download everything at a point in tim would be good

The title of this discussion should be changed so this reaches more people, downloading libraries locally so they can be used in an outage or other scenario is very useful. I have tried compiling some firmware offline and it worked, it just skipped downloading the libraries again.
