Describe the component you'd like
I'd like support for input from a standard USB-connected keyboard, to be used as buttons directly or with the
key_collectorcomponent.What are your use cases for this component?
I want to use ESPHome to turn a cheap CH57x macro pad into a set of Home Assistant-compatible buttons with which I can trigger automations.
Is there a public datasheet, documentation and/or schematics?
For ESP32 variants that come with SDK-level HID support:
For platforms without such SDK support, it would likely still be feasible to implement the boot keyboard protocol specified in HID 1.11. I'd be particularly interested in using the C3.
Anything else?
I'm raising this feature request primarily to make sure that an existing issue (esphome/esphome#10649) and PR (esphome/esphome#9680) can be tracked in a venue which isn't vulnerable to the staleness bot. I'll be happy to pitch in to make it happen as folks might find useful.
