This has taken longer than I'd like due to limits on the rate I'm allowed to upload new posts to GitHub, but we have finally moved to the new forums!

I've copied over all the old posts, but haven't been able to keep the original poster ownership intact (instead I added Posted by @username comments), and in order to speed up the transition I've had to merge multiple posts together (I've separated them by lines).

If you find an answer or question helpful, please do upvote it with the up-arrow, and hopefully it'll help us to make the really useful stuff easier to find!

Also with the new forum we can now finally have more than one admin - If you'd like to be a forum admin, please let me know!

edit: I've also managed to make an old->new mapping, so old-style links such as http://forum.espruino.com/conversations/401353 should still go to the same place, which will hopefully make it easier to find stuff and navigate within the forum.

Here on Github discussions it's possible to start sub-threads within a discussion. That didn't exist in the conversations on the old forum.

How should we handle that? Get with the times? Or would there be some way to restrict such sub-threads to emulate the experience we had before?

I personally find sub-threads a bit cumbersome. Having to click in to them instead of just scrolling down the page.

Long [edit:] sub-thread messages are truncated in the main discussion, only visible when clicking in to the sub-thread. At least on mobile.

I think on desktop the long messages aren't truncated - I don't see it here anyway. It'd have been nice to keep all messages separate but unfortunately due to the rate limiting (500 messages/hr/account) that was the difference between getting the forum online today, or some time 2 weeks from now :)

It's possible I could come up with a bot that would slowly work through messages splitting them up over the next month of so, but maybe we see how it goes.

The sub-message thing is a bit different but I guess we might as well use it. I can imagine that what happens is you have a long thread of messages and then someone marks one as solving the problem - and then someone else might want to reply to that without adding it to the end of the long conversation.

Yeah, those long 'compilation' messages aren't truncated for me on mobile either. So not a problem 👍. Just these ones here I created to test the sub-thread out I meant. :)

How can I track recent unread posts like the "Today" on old forum?
In the main list at https://github.com/orgs/espruino/discussions I don't see clearly which topics has new posts since last visit.

I'm sure there's a better way, but I think you can go to https://github.com/espruino/Discussion and click the 'watch' button as if you wanted to watch any other GitHub repo

Well, I get too many notification emails already. But anyway it looks like when I hover mouse over topic title, the beginning of last post is shown so that helps a bit, but not much. And too bad it is not clickable so I can't directly go there.

however maybe not everything got imported properly? I just searched for "Amiibo" and that got me two other topics that both reference the original topic about those cheap NFC keychains as e.g. https://forum.espruino.com/conversations/388395/#17106792 but the link itself is not working and the topic was not found despite possibly having this keyword in some post

Ok, thanks - I was wondering about that as when sorting out the old->new mapping I noticed missing posts. The frustrating thing is I kept logs, and so I know that my code did upload it (and it got all the attachments) - so I don't know what happened - it's like GitHub silently deleted it which is a bit concerning.

I've re-uploaded it at (I just deleted it again - see below) - but my worry is that when I do the imports now, now the forum is public it's just going to spam users - for instance your inbox is probably full now.

I just re-ran my script to check - around 4800 conversations have been added but 2607 are still missing, despite me having uploaded them. And they're all from the espruino-discuss user which it seems GitHub banned for over-using the API despite me letting support know exactly what I was doing with that account :( I'm hopeful that they will reinstate that and all (or at least most of) the messages will re-appear - so I have removed the post I added and mentioned above for now because hopefully the original will come back up soon.

edit: hopefully posts will reappear soon, but the mapping of old->new posts (allowing https://forum.espruino.com/conversations/... links to work) will need me to re-run my scripts after the content appears, and I'm away next week so that may not happen for a bit

GitHub reinstated the account just now, and I've updated the script that forwards https://forum.espruino.com/conversations/... links - looks like it's all sorted!
