bangle js 2: no vibration

Hi,

I've received my bangle js 2 yesterday and still trying to understand if it has vibration motor at all, I cannot get them vibrate.

Yes, Vibration is turned on and Quiet Mode is turned off in Settings->Alerts

I've tried to send messages, send custom notifications from gadgetbridge, set alarms, write an one-line app with misleading function called Bangle.buzz() and run it, nothing works, clock is not vibrating

Firmware version is 2v25, the only thing I did is installed "android integration" app. I've tried factory reset multiple times

Could please anyone tell if it's a bug, clock defect or my bad?

Hi,

Sorry to hear that - it does have a vibration motor, yes - and Bangle.buzz() should vibrate for a fraction of a second if you just write that on the console of the Web IDE and hit enter (unless quiet mode in on, but you mention it's not).

One way to make absolutely sure would be to type D19.write(1) on the Web IDE console - that'll turn on the actual pin that makes the vibration motor work - and then run D19.write(0) to turn it off.

I guess it's possible the motor has become stuck somehow. It's not something I've come across yet, but if it had happened I guess using D19.write(1) and then giving the Bangle a little tap would help.

• to shake and knock watch on the table after calling D19.write(1), didn't help

Ok, sorry - it looks like there's a problem with your Bangle then. What country are you in, and where did you purchase it from? We can arrange a replacement.

Hello. I hope it's OK to join an alreagy open thread, especially since I have the same problem.

I just received my Bangle.js2 today and I'm trying to set it up to fit my requirements. I installed a phone application, added some apps to the watch (including Messages and Android Integration). And all is OK except for vibrations. The vibration motor is working - I can feel it (it's weak but noticable) when I connect a USB cable or in the Settings->Apps->Messages when I try to change vibration scheme. I tried to connect to my watch with an IDE and send Bangle.buzz() and it worked. But when someone calls me, I have a notification message displayed - but no vibration. And it's very annoying since as a long time Pebble user, I rely on this feature a lot.

Can you help me with this? Thanks!

One more thing - when other events/messages arrive, the watch vibrates as expected. It seems to be just a matter of incoming calls.

Please can you try connecting with the Web IDE on a PC (https://www.espruino.com/ide/ - you'll have to disconnect from Gadgetbridge first) and pasting this on the left-hand side of the IDE?

That should 'fake' a call coming in. Do you see any messages printed right after you enter the command? And does it buzz in that case? Maybe you could also paste in require("Storage").readJSON("messages.settings.json", true) and copy what it says there into your reply?

I tried with the long buzzes for 'Vibrate for calls' here and it seems to work for me, so maybe it's some other setting...

I think, here is the problem:

So it looks like something's not installed or configured. How can I get over it? I'm getting a notification though, just no vibration of any kind.

It writing =undefined is expected - that's just what you get when you run a function that doesn't return anything.

I tried with your settings here and I see the issue too, but with the default settings it's fine. Upon closer inspection, it's the ignoreUnread field, which appears in settings as: Auto-Open Unread Msg.

Someone renamed the field showMsgIfUnread to ignoreUnread ~5 months ago and it seems didn't test it - they forgot to change how it appears in the settings menu! So the default was ok (don't ignore) but if you change the setting it'd break it.

So if you just go into settings and uncheck that field, new messages (including calls!) will automatically be opened, and your phone will buzz with a fullscreen message with swipe to answer/reject.

I've just fixed it on the development app loader, but probably best for you to just uncheck that box for now and then when it updates you won't have to worry.

YES! Disabling that option did it. Now my watch vibrates as expected. Great. I'll put my Pebble Time away for a moment and let Bangle show what it's capable of :-)
