I'm a beginner coder, so I hope my questions are good and relevant I'd like to know if Friction exporting SMIL animations is the best option. I heard that SMIL didn't have any new features added since 2008, which is a really long time ago, but I think SMIL is still maintained and is still supported by a lot of platforms. Someone mentioned they hope Friction will move to JS/CSS animation. Is that an actively updated thing compared to SMIL? What will happen if SMIL somehow gets deprecated? Will Friction then need to export animations in a different format? What will Friction do with the next big version of SVG 2? What other file formats do animation softwares export to and what are those pros and cons? |

SMIL is complete, no changes needed.
We will never move to JS for animation. If SMIL is removed we will move to CSS.
Nothing, SVG 2 does not change anything related to animation.
Lottie is popular, but it's mostly for people that don't remember Flash Player ("Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it"). |
