Custom reorder of areas per floor

Describe your request

I would like Home Assistant to support custom reordering of areas within each floor.
Currently, areas are shown in a fixed or system-defined order and there is no way to adjust it.

Being able to manually reorder them (for example by drag-and-drop in the UI or through configuration) would make the layout more natural and better reflect the real structure of the home or the user’s preferences.

This ordering should be respected everywhere areas are displayed.

Why the uncertainty?

This feature could belong to multiple parts of Home Assistant. It affects both the frontend and the underlying handling of areas/floors, so it’s not obvious which category it should go in.

Use cases

• I want my most important rooms (e.g., Kitchen, Corridor, Entrance) to appear first for faster access.
• I want the order of areas to match the physical layout of my home, making navigation more intuitive.
• In larger setups with many rooms and devices, a custom order helps reduce clutter and makes it easier to find what I need.

What areas might this affect?

• Area and floor management
• Any dashboard or view where areas are displayed
• Possibly the mobile app, if it inherits the same order

Anything else?

Current workarounds (like renaming areas with numeric prefixes such as “1-Kitchen”, “2-Living Room”) are not user-friendly and clutter the interface.
A native ordering option would solve this elegantly and improve usability without breaking existing setups.
