Possible to modify render of linked DOIs to show DOI number? #2399

In https://mystmd.org/guide/external-references#linking-dois, the MyST docs explain that linking a DOI anywhere in the document will create a citation and render the citation in place of the DOI. Is it possible to still link the DOI, but not replace the formatting? For example, if one is creating a manual list of research products that have been created, the Markdown might look like but MyST renders this as

We currently replace the text if the link has the DOI as the content, probably something that would be better as an option, but that is not configurable at the moment.
A work around is to make it not "DOI like". That I think is best done by putting a zero-width space after the
