Replace Celluloid with a modern Mediaplayer Mint Cinnamon 22.1 #769

You seem to be saying that, because Mint is using a superseded version of Celluloid, Mint should change to a different media player altogether. But why should Mint not instead use the newest version of Celluloid? That which you write does contain an implicit answer to that question, that answer being that the newest version of Celluloid is itself old. |

I don't follow development of all forks done by Mint, for example I not follow at all the one of celluloid. |

I think VLC should be standard. |

I also have VLC as default on installations I do, anyway to put it as default for a distro there are other things to consider, for example in many cases a more minimal and light software is preferred as default. |

Some user guides discourage to remove apps added through Mint's standard installation. |

@PurpleSmurf2 I'm confused. You write as though the fact that Celluoid comes with Linux Mint prevents us from installing any other application we like better. What would you recommend in place of Celluloid? |

though this doesn't make sense here, but i am so glad to be using nixos with cinnamon DE. it has got the latest celluloid v0.27. i tried linux mint distribution in month of 2024.05, and coming from windows, the app versions were so old. i know that was worst time to be trying lm due to how its release cycle works, but still. |

I'd be happy for KDE's Haruna (Qt) fork for Mint's Cinnamon (GTK) ... |

The version used is 0.21 from 22 May 2021 and the most current version is 0.27 from 24 June 2024. Many annoying bugs have been fixed in the new version, such as the automatic adjustment of the window size, which is still incorrect in version 0.21. If I understood correctly, celluloid is no longer updated for Mint, so it's time to change the media player.
