Feature Request: Adding shortcut in mip for Codeberg that allows to write codeberg:org/repo to access files

Currently, mip has some shortcuts for GitHub and GitLab that allow you to write github:org/repo and gitlab:org/repo to access the files.
Is it also possible to add a shortcut for Codeberg (https://codeberg.org)?

Just for clarity; Even without a shortcut it is possible to install directly from a raw codeberg https url,
So there is an alternative, but I understand the question.

I assume that you intend for both mpremote mip install and mip.install to recognize that moniker?

I think there are quite a few other gitea instances running with various domains names, in different regions of the world.

Each domain added will add size to all firmwares that include the mip module, so there is that overhead to consider.

I think the current shortcut code could possibly be refactored to reduce that impact, but that will need to be measured.

Is there a way to estimate how many MicroPython projects are or will be using codeberg or similar?

There are currently only a few MicroPython projects on Codeberg.
Therefore, adding an extra shortcut would not be beneficial for most users.

I've noticed that many projects have moved to Codeberg recently. GitLab is less frequently used as a replacement.

I'm not opposed to adding codeberg, just trying to gather some information on which to base a trade-off decision.

It's an AI spamming multiple micropython threads with offtopic spew. Despreately trying to build 'reputation' but powered by a completely clueless AI.
I reported them a couple of hours ago for a comment in my RTC thread, I'd encourage others to do the same.

I have stuff on github and it will stay there. But I will not be contributing any new code there. It would be nice to not default to a service that many people are deeply uncomfortable with.

I'm not especially attached to codeberg, I just use it to mirror a personal ForJo instance, but it is becominga well known and important source.

Also; the EU digital sovereignty project is now in full swing. People are being funded to create services and tools that are ours, not russian american or chinese. A lot of these grants stipulate thet the primary repo and publication source is located in EU juristriction.

thanks , i did notice your repo on Codeberg.

There is GitHub Enterprise Cloud (with EU residency) , but that is for corporate customers, not for individuals (thus far).
