Changing number of search results to display in front end UI

Hi, i've been looking for the fiel where i can change the number of results shown on the front end out of the box UI.
I thought it would be simple but all my edits are having no effect. Would you be able to share the file/s where i can make this edit please?

In the latest version (including PRs waiting for approval) you can pass it a max_results argument
