Hello Open Food Facts team 👋

My name is Jatin, and I’m a student preparing to apply for GSoC 2026.

I’m very interested in contributing to Open Food Facts because of its impact on open data, health, and sustainability. I have experience with Python and Git/GitHub, and I’m currently improving my skills in backend development and open-source collaboration.

I would like to start contributing before the GSoC proposal period. Could you please guide me toward beginner-friendly issues or repositories where I can start?

I’m currently setting up the development environment and going through the documentation.

I'm also preparing for GSoC 2026 and have been contributing to the openfoodfacts-python repository. Here's what helped me get started:

1. Check issue #76 — it's the main epic listing all beginner-friendly tasks
2. Start with documentation issues — they're easier to begin with and maintainers appreciate them
3. Join the Open Food Facts Slack at slack.openfoodfacts.org → #python channel — maintainers are very helpful there

I've already opened PRs #441 (facets documentation), #442 (pagination support for get_categories), and one for issue #55 (image addition documentation). Feel free to check them out for reference!

I’m Pusala Kotesh, a Computer Science undergraduate with a strong foundation in Data Structures, Algorithms, and MERN stack development. I’m also passionate about Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, with a focus on building data-driven solutions.

I actively contribute to open source and worked on the OpenFoodFacts Open Prices Frontend, where I resolved issue #2098 and improved user experience. This strengthened my skills in understanding real-world codebases and debugging effectively.

I also participate in hackathons, where I enjoy solving challenging problems and building impactful applications under pressure. I’m continuously learning and aim to develop scalable solutions at the intersection of full-stack development and AI.
