Oxia 1.0: From Foundation to Production Readiness 🚀

Introduction

It has been an incredible journey since we first introduced Oxia. Our goal was to build a high-performance, scalable metadata store that overcomes the limitations of traditional systems. As we move into 2026, we are excited to share our progress and our primary objective for the year: The Release of Oxia 1.0.

Looking Back: Our 2025 Milestones

In the past year, we focused on building a robust core. Thanks to the community's feedback and contributions, we achieved several critical goals:

• Core Architecture: Successfully implemented the horizontal sharding mechanism and leader election protocols.
• Consistency & Reliability: Integrated extensive TLA+ verification and initial Jepsen testing to ensure data integrity.
• Performance: Achieved significant throughput improvements in metadata write operations compared to early prototypes.
• Community Foundation: Welcomed our first set of external contributors and stabilized the initial client APIs.

The Vision for 1.0: "Production Ready"

Version 1.0 marks a major transition for Oxia. It signifies that the project is moving from an experimental phase to a reliable component for production environments. Our definition of 1.0 includes:

1. API Stability: Finalizing the public API and guaranteeing no breaking changes within the 1.0 lifecycle.
2. Operational Excellence: Enhanced observability with native Prometheus metrics and a streamlined Kubernetes Operator for easier deployments.
3. Hardened Security: Implementation of end-to-end TLS support and robust authentication.
4. Comprehensive Documentation: A complete overhaul of our docs, including architecture deep-dives and production best practices.

2026 Roadmap

To reach the 1.0 milestone, our focus for this year is divided into three main pillars:

• Q1-Q2 (Hardening): Focusing on edge-case recovery, stress testing, and expanding the integration test suite.
• Q3 (The 1.0 Launch): The official release of Oxia 1.0, accompanied by a performance whitepaper.
• Q4 (Ecosystem Expansion): Expanding client library support and exploring cross-region replication features.
