PDK Dev Call Updates – July 14th

Armin

• Last week, focused on cataloging what's been done and what’s left for the Liana integration. Documented findings in GitHub Discussions.
• Identified which parts of the integration can be shipped upstream independently.
• Refactored the database to store session events in their own table instead of serializing everything in a single row.
• Helped Ben set up his dev environment and paired on implementing receiver typestate checks.
• Made fixes on the Liana side to get end-to-end sending and receiving working on the happy path.
• Opened Seperating fee application from signing #870 to separate fee application into its own receiver typestates and will be working on it this week.
• Also worked on support p2wsh inputs on the sender Derive weight from witness for p2wsh inputs #862
• This week: planning to open an upstream Liana issue to support foreign inputs + Seperating fee application from signing #870.
• Needs to refactor error handling and run more non-happy path tests to surface bugs.

Ben

• Spent last week setting up the Liana dev environment. Faced issues due to a missing NixOS package. Will pair with Brandon to set up the Nix flake. Current setup works but isn’t ideal.
• Receiver typestate checks require a mutable database reference, but Fn closures don’t support mutable captures. This is a soft blocker. We can read the things we need from the db and move them into the closure but it might make sense to make an API change to support FnOnce instead of Fn.
• Main constraint remains the environment setup.
• Also worked on Dart-FFI integration a bit more last week and updated the cargo-mutants version.

Brandon

• Opened PR for adding a reproducible devShell for python FFI.
  Brainstormed with @spacebear21 for Payjoin presentation ideas for the Riga conf
• Need to review @zealsham 's PR, and also would like to see if I can experimentally pair it with my Prometheus/Grafana payjoin directory flake
• Will pair with @benalleng to work on debugging Liana nix setup
• Need to update python FFI nix devShell based on comments from @nothingmuch (thanks for the review!)
• Add remaining issue templates as mentioned in this PR to simplify contributing esp. for new devs and professionalize our repo.

Chavic

• Last week: helped Spacebear resolve a bug related to Dart-FFI integration tests.
• This week: reactivating tests based on UniFFI fixtures. Needs to adapt them for Dart.
• Noted that other teams (e.g., BDK) are also facing issues with UniFFI pruning upstream types (?). This isn't Dart-specific but a general UniFFI issue. Chavic may already have addressed some of it(?) More on this here

Dan

• Last week: helped get Chavic onboard.
• got fragment parameter fixes merged Fragment parameter fixes #852
• Set up some operational infrastructure. (side note bank wire transfers suck - bitcoin fixes this)
• Completed some PR reviews.
• Started the week by documenting some the sender side techdebt that was introduced by Fix pjos handling in v2 receiver and sender #847 resolve PJOS. (documented here)
• Aims to spend more time on integrations this week.
• Needs to follow up with legal counsel to refine the long-term vision for the foundation.

Nothingmuch

• Reviewed several PRs last week, including fixing the fragment deliminator BIP 77: Delimit fragment params with - instead of + bitcoin/bips#1890
• Worked with Spacebear on issues related to testcontainers and Redis removal.
• Currently setting up GCP to test ACME changes and writing a NixOS module to run the directory.
• On Wednesday @ 1pm est: will lead a team session introducing Nix and Nix dev shells.

Spacebear

• Last week: focused on getting UniFFI Dart and Payjoin bindings working.
• Dart integration tests are flaky. They are passing about half the time. Failures often relate to testcontainers.
• In a separate change, updating testcontainers eliminated the issues but broke MSRV. Easiest fix is removing the Docker dependency, which is currently only used for Redis.
• Dart-FFI PR is reviewable Uniffi dart #829 , but tests are unreliable. Might disable the integration test workflow temporarily until we remove the payjoin directory redis dependency.
• Handled admin tasks to onboard Chavic, including transferring the dart-ffi repo to a new org (uniffi-dart) (?) There's ongoing discussion about creating a general bitcoin-ffi org. Discussions are inconclusive.
• Worked on the Bitcoin++ talk.
• This week: aiming to merge the Dart change into rust-payjoin and formalize testing, CI, and linting on the Dart-FFI side.

Shehu

• Migrating payjoin-cli from Sled to SQLite3. Migrate payjoin-cli Sled db to sqlite3 #867

Zealsham

• This week: reviewing feedback on the Payjoin Directory PR. Introduce metrics Collection via prometheus for payjoin directory #848
• Working on setting a default directory config. Also received some review feedback. Add default directory to payjoin-cli #874

Zele

• Last week: studied how to review Bitcoin Core PRs by reading an article by Jon Atak
• Aiming to do more review work this week.
