I found this on Google Play, At first I thought BitChat now available on Play Store until i see name of the publisher...

Wait,, so thats not Jacks BitChat? I installed on 2 phones and seems to work exactly as described here.
(uninstalled playstore version on one device and installed official github apk and it appears to be exact same. Both versions see each other and communicate as if same)

Likely someone just compiled it and published it to the store. It may have been tampered with so be careful. I’d recommend uninstalling it and compiling it yourself from source.

I think if the app has malicious intent, it could already be too late.

An app with the same name and logo was also released on the App Store. It has a strange developer and doesn’t even seem to serve the same purpose as the original proposal.

ahh.. well at least he dose not seem to have malicious intent (I hope). Feel a lot better about having installed it on my company work phone (fingers crossed - Still half expect to be receiving a call/talking to from our IT department Monday).

How so? From the post from said user, he just took exact same code and uploaded it to playstore.

Taking someone else's code and uploading it as your own is a bit of red flag. I wouldn't touch it, wait for the official release or build the code yourself.

I would suggest, at the very least, to put this app on F-Droid, if uploading it on Play Store isn't feasible.

There's a lot of confusion thanks to all the fake websites, and now the unofficial release on Play Store. I already downloaded 2 unofficial copies, one of which might've been malware 😟, before realizing that the releases on github are the real ones.
