[BUG]: Phalcon 5.11.1 fails to compile on PHP 8.4 with Debian 13 (trixie)

Describe the bug

When attempting to compile Phalcon 5.11.1 via PECL on PHP 8.4-fpm-trixie (Debian 13), the compilation fails during the build process with the following error:

make: *** [Makefile:214: phalcon.lo] Error 1

This error occurs in Docker containers based on php:8.4-fpm-trixie.

Environment

PHP Version: 8.4 (via php:8.4-fpm-trixie)
Phalcon Version: 5.11.1
Base OS: Debian 13 (trixie)
Installation method: PECL (pecl install phalcon-5.11.1)
Environment: Docker container

Steps to reproduce

1. Use the following Dockerfile:

FROM php:8.4-fpm-trixie
ENV DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive
RUN apt-get update && apt-get install -y build-essential autoconf libfreetype6-dev libjpeg62-turbo-dev libzip-dev && pecl install phalcon-5.11.1 && docker-php-ext-enable phalcon

2. Build the Docker image
3. Observe the compilation error at Makefile:214

Expected behavior

Phalcon 5.11.1 should compile successfully on PHP 8.4 with Debian 13.

Actual behavior

Compilation fails with make: *** [Makefile:214: phalcon.lo] Error 1

Additional context

PHP 8.3-fpm-bookworm (Debian 12) compiles Phalcon 5.11.1 successfully without issues.

I'll be trying this with PIE, so please tell me the following:
First, what is the latest version that can be installed with PIE?
Second, what steps are necessary on a server that is just a stock Debian 13 with PHP 8.4-FPM installed?
Is it necessary to install PIE itself?

@s-ohnishi I found the issue.

I tried with a simple image as you mention above, and run the commands as you did. I got a makefile error also. Honestly I thought we fixed this but it seems not everywhere. This is what I run on my docker to install it successfully

apt update
apt-get install -y build-essential autoconf libfreetype6-dev libjpeg62-turbo-dev libzip-dev wget git
wget https://github.com/php/pie/releases/download/1.4.2/pie.phar
chmod a+x pie.phar 
CFLAGS="-Wno-incompatible-pointer-types" ./pie.phar install phalcon/cphalcon:5.11.1

The CFLAGS is the key here.

We have I think a few issues regarding the incompatible pointer types, hopefully we can get rid of all of those very soon so it will be just pie install .... from then on.

Are these packages necessary?

It seemed that I couldn't install php8.4-dev using the official PHP image.
I gave up and decided to use debian:trixie instead.

Although there are some extra files, I've attached the Dockefile that successfully built the system.

The zip I am not sure. The freetype/jpeg I think are for the Image namespace. I don't think they are if you are not using the Image namespace.

Thank you. I'll try various things.
If re2c is required to compile Phalcon, then while we're at it, if we remove the seemingly unnecessary "NOT BETWEEN" around /ext/phalcon/mvc/model/query/scanner.re#L301, we might be able to avoid having to add unnecessary escaping to column names like in the previously discussed notify issue. (I reported that I had successfully experimented with this at the time, but I didn't get any support.)
It's possible that this could be resolved simply by upgrading the re2c version.
