What criteria do you consider when selecting a candidate? Do you prioritize experience in open-source projects, or do you focus more on the proposal itself? This can be a bit of a grey area, as different organizations have varying preferences.

This is how we narrow down proposals:

1. Proposal structure
2. Quality and structure of the technical part of the proposal
3. If conflicts see previous OSS experience. You dont need to have OSS experience. If we see that you have potential to complete your idea, then that will superseed experience.

Hello, I've a question regarding Unified Dev Tooling project idea. Does a candidate need to have experience in bundlers / web tooling to be fit for that project idea?

Bundlers / tooling always piqued my interest but couldn't really have time to deep dive into them, so I thought that project was a good idea for me to learn more about them.

This year is somewhat special because we need a candidate that knows enough of the internals to be able to solve one of our project ideas.

Hey everyone,

I’m looking into setting up a monorepo for Webpack Unified Dev Tools and wanted to get your thoughts. I see two main approaches:

1. Centralized Dependencies

Keep core dependencies at the root and use tools like Lerna to manage everything. It reduces duplication but might complicate path management.

2. Package-Level Dependencies

Each package manages its own dependencies, which increases duplication but offers better isolation.

Which approach do you think would work best for us? Any tips on managing shared configs or tools you recommend?

I am trying to work on this project Webpack: ESM Module Output for GSoC '25, and the approach I am considering for improving tree-shaking support involves:

• Using Rollup's tree-shaking algorithm to enhance dead code elimination.
• Utilizing an ESM analyzer to better track module dependencies.
• Wrapping CJS modules inside an ES module-like structure to improve compatibility and optimization.

For HMR (Hot Module Replacement) improvements, I plan to:

• Implement fetch over import() for better dynamic module loading and caching efficiency.

Hi @evenstensberg . It would be great if you'd let us know if Webpack mentors team is reviewing draft proposals or not. It would be of great help if my proposal could be reviewed and I could get proper feedback on how to move forward.

We have over 200++ proposals and mails sent to us via email, discord, twitter and github. We're unable to give all of you feedback so we have decided not to review any proposals this year because we want people to have the same foundation for getting accepted to the programme. However, after this year we are going to create a webpack repo that contains a lot of information to help students apply.

Hey @evenstensberg , while submitting the proposal, the places for proposal title, and summary, how long do you expect the proposal summary to be, and is the proposal title same as the project title? Also, how should I name my file that is to be submitted? A reply would be really appreciated
